We are pleased to introduce the inaugural release of Richard G Peterson 2013 Pinot Noir. Produced by Dick Peterson, this wine is sourced from a vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, situated just inland from Monterey Bay on the California coast.
The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA boasts a cool climate and one of the longest growing seasons in California. Both are necessary for producing superb Pinot Noir. The Richard G Peterson table wine is a blend of the Wrotham Pinot clone and the R-4 clone of Pinot Noir.
The Wrotham clone is unique in all the world of viticulture. It was discovered growing in Wrotham Village in southeast England, in all liklihood, the descendent of cuttings introduced there by the Romans some 2000 years ago. See The Story of Wrotham Pinot on this web site. The winegrapes of the Wrotham clone produce a uniquely rich color and a spicy character, not often found in Pinot Noir wines. In 1980, Dick Peterson brought the Wrotham cuttings back to California and planted them. “I wanted to do something that was good, genuine and serious…but not a copy of what everybody else was doing.”
